Keys For Provision

Abdelaziz Ragab Sheikh

All praise is due to Allah; the Strong, the All-Provider, prayer and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his followers till the Day of Judgement.

The issue of provision is basicaly religious. The Almighty Allah is the All-Provider. 556. And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone(. 57 I seek not any provision from them, nor do I ask that they should feed Me.

The Almighty Allah ensured the provisions of all creatures. He said: 116.And no living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allah. And He knows its dwelling place and its deposit. all is in a Clear Book.

A person's provision is decided when he is in his mother's body; 'Abdullah bin Mas'ood (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), the truthful, and the receiver of the truth informed us, saying, "The creation of you is gathered in the form of semen in the womb of your mother for forty days, then it becomes a clinging thing in similar (period), then it becomes a lump of flesh like that, then Allah sends an angel who breathes the life into it; and (the angel) is commanded to record four things about it: Its provision, its term of life (in this world), its conduct; and whether it will be happy or miserable. By the One besides Whom there is no true god! Verily, one of you would perform the actions of the dwellers of Jannah until there is only one cubit between him and it (Jannah), when what is foreordained would come to pass and he would perform the actions of the inmates of Hell until he enter it. And one of you would perform the actions of the inmates of Hell, until there is only one cubit between him and Hell. Then he would perform the acts of the dwellers of Jannah until he would enter it."

A person cannot earn a blessed provision without following some of these conditions:
Righteousness: it is obeying the Almighty Allah, and staying away from disobeying and making Him angry. 72: 16 If they (non-Muslims) had believed in Allah, and went on the Right Way (i.e. Islam) We should surely have bestowed on them water (rain) in abundance.

Provision from Allah can only be obtained by obeying Him. Doing otherwise blocks provision: 7: 96. And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwa (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.(

It was narrated from Thawban that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “nothing increases one’s life span except righteousness and nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication, and a man may be deprived of provision by a sin that he commits.’”

Whoever prays regularly -especially the prayer of dawn- is included in the Prophet's for blessing his provision. Narrated Sakhr al-Ghamidi: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O Allah, bless my people in their early mornings." When he sent out a detachment or an army, he sent them at the beginning of the day. Sakhr was a merchant, and he would send off his merchandise at the beginning of the day; and he became rich and had much wealth.

The provision of whoever has good ties with his blood relations will be blesssed. Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "He who desires ample provisions and his life be prolonged, should maintain good ties with his blood relations"

The Almighty Allah, will gives provision from an unexpected source to whoever truly depends on Him with due reliance. 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: "If you all depend on Allah with due reliance, He would certainly give you provision as He gives it to birds who go forth hungry in the morning and return with full belly at dusk".

The Almighty Allah said: 65: 2. Then when they are about to fulfil their term appointed, either take them back in a good manner or part with them in a good manner. And take for witness two just persons from among you (Muslims). And establish the witness for Allah. That will be an admonition given to him who believes in Allah and the Last Day. And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). 3. And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allah has set a measure for all things.

After putting trust in the Almighty Allah, legitamate means of earning living must be taken. 67: 15. He it is, Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to live and to do agriculture on it, etc.), so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The people of Yemen used to come for Hajj and used not to bring enough provisions with them and used to say that they depend on Allah. On their arrival in Medina they used to beg the people, and so Allah revealed, "And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best provision is the fear of Allah." (2.197).

Ibn Mas'ood (May Allah be pleased with him) said that he hated to see a man doing nothing for both his life, and the Hereafter.

Repeated mentioning of the Almighty Allah, especialy asking for His forgiveness, is one of the ways of increasing provision. Prophet Nuh peace be upon him, urged his people to do so: 71: 10. "I said (to them): 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; 11. 'He will send rain to you in abundance; 12. 'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.' "

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone continually asks pardon, Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress, and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide for him from where he did not reckon.

Thanking the Almighty Allah frequently for what He gave will increase the provision. 14: 7 .And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: "If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe."

Spending and giving charity for the sake of Allah is a cause for opening many ways of provision. 34: 39 .Say: "Truly, my Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and (also) restricts (it) for him, and whatsoever you spend of anything (in Allah's Cause), He will replace it. And He is the Best of providers."

Also on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (ﷺ), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said: Spend (on charity), O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you. It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim).

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Two angels descend every morning, and one says: 'O Allah, give him who spends something, in place of what he spends.' The other one says: 'O Allah, give destruction to him who withholds".

(O Allah! Grant me enough of what You make lawful so that I may dispense with what You make unlawful, and enable me by Your Grace to dispense with all but You)."

And the conclusion of our prayer is: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds!

Le chiavi della Provvidenza

Sheikh Abd ulAziz Rajab
